The last question
The story was read in an easy to listen fashion. But why they chose to add a 1/2 hour of random music at the end after the story was told is a mystery to me. I suspect someone wanted extra royalties.
A Poor Production
The Last Question is one of my very favorite short stories. Unfortunately, the person reading it seems to lose steam halfway through, and what should be an exciting and shocking ending falls absolutely flat. Worse, the story only occupies about the first 30 minutes of the file, and the other 30 minutes is filled on and off with some pretty poor synthesized music. What a big disappointment- don't waste your money.
Great Short Story
I heard this as a reading on You-Tube and I found it absolutly amazing. The thesis it presents is very plausable though none of us will ever be around to see it. What shocked me most is that this story is from 1956. So the specific predictions of the technology mentioned is wrong (talks of tubes), but the concept of how it evolves over time is quite good and accurate.
The guy was a genius.
