Publisher Description

Against all odds we have made it into the last half of the 1990s. The Cold War looks solved, Arabs and Jews are talking, confrontation is on the wane. In this new harmony, one discord -- what becomes of unemployed terrorists?

You can bet they aren't going to retire quietly. Shunned by the Soviets, isolated by Middle Eastern realignment, one cadre hits on a scheme to jump-start the war machine. It's brilliant in its simplicity. With a single act they bring the world to nuclear boil. Jack Ryan and Dan Murray sweat to defuse a cataclysmic response.

What? Are these other people whack jobs?

This is a fabulous book and the narrator is clear and professional. He doesn't just read it, he acts it. More important, this is a delicious tapestry of characters and events that couldn't be guessed or expected. The characters range from old favorites and heroes to international terrorists, communists, and liberals. What else do you want. The movie ruined the story. This isn't the best Clancy book, but if you want one with everything Clancy does best, I couldn't think of a better selection.

Not for the overly sensitive

This is Clancy at his best, hero Jack Ryan returns in what is the second best book Mr Clancy has ever written. It finds us at the ending days of the Cold War, and trouble begins a new but in the Middle East and aimed for the US. This is a review on the book in general, i would reccomend buying a physical copy

Easier to listen to

This book isn't one Clancy's best but it is an enjoyable installment in the Jack Ryan series. Scott Brick, the reader,is one of the better ones. Not as good as Lou Diamond Phillips but much better than Pritchard. In fact this is the last audiobook I'm getting because Pritchard is so awful at reading.
