Shaolin Ninja ,

I'd give it 10 stars if I could for the reading alone...

Not only is this, perhaps, the best English novel in my opinion--it can make you laugh your socks off, even today--but Peter Barker is such a talented reader that you actually feel you are sitting in the parlor with Tristram, Uncle Toby, the loveable Trim, Doc Slop, and Mr. Shandy. This is read with nothing less than genius.

Books for a buck continued...

These Great Literary Classics are published by the Royal National Institute for the Blind. If you can catch them for 95 cents, they are the best value in the listening universe. The readers are all experienced narrators giving their services – no well-meaning, but inexpert, amateurs here.

I have found these bargains under the following writers (as well as those mentioned by another reviewer): Leon Tolstoy, Jonathan Swift, James Fenimore Cooper, Gustave Flaubert, Daniel Defoe, Alexandre Dumas (search under Dumas without the Alexandre), F Scott Fitzgerald, Arthur Conan Doyle, Erskine Childers and John Buchan.

Be aware that they are all unedited live performances, so expect the occasional rustle of paper or verbal slip.

Entertaining!

What a wonderful surprise. Sterne is arch, cheerfully satierical, sly, and nimble. Peter Barker gets it all and gives it to you on a platter with great relish. What a great voice and style for reading aloud! Entertainment by masters.
