INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER • A heart-wrenchingly raw and heartbreakingly romantic story that asks the ultimate question: What would you do if you had to choose?
“Beautifully written.”—Entertainment Weekly
“Every moment I spent reading Forman’s masterpiece drew me in more.”—NPR
Mia had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, adoring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music and full of choices. Then, in an instant, almost all of that is taken from her. Caught between life and death, between a happy past and an unknowable future, Mia spends one critical day contemplating the only decision she has left—the most important decision she’ll ever make. Simultaneously tragic and hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting, and ultimately uplifting story about memory, music, living, dying, loving.
Adapted into a major motion picture starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia’s story will stay with you for a long, long time.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
An idyllic snow day takes a tragic turn in this strikingly beautiful novel that features a marvelous, multigenerational cast of characters. Mia and Adam have a fantastic relationship founded on a shared passion for music and a preternaturally mature grasp of their core values. As Mia flashes back to key episodes in the couple’s shared history, Gayle Forman offers vivid, funny, and moving glimpses of familial interactions, key friendships, and the camaraderie among bandmates. Like The Fault in Our Stars, If I Stay is a heart-wrenching tale that embraces both the hopeful kaleidoscopic shimmer of young love and the brutal unpredictability of real life.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The last normal moment that Mia, a talented cellist, can remember is being in the car with her family. Then she is standing outside her body beside their mangled Buick and her parents' corpses, watching herself and her little brother being tended by paramedics. As she ponders her state ("Am I dead? I actually have to ask myself this"), Mia is whisked away to a hospital, where, her body in a coma, she reflects on the past and tries to decide whether to fight to live. Via Mia's thoughts and flashbacks, Forman (Sisters in Sanity) expertly explores the teenager's life, her passion for classical music and her strong relationships with her family, friends and boyfriend, Adam. Mia's singular perspective (which will recall Alice Sebold's adult novel, The Lovely Bones) also allows for powerful portraits of her friends and family as they cope: "Please don't die. If you die, there's going to be one of those cheesy Princess Diana memorials at school," prays Mia's friend Kim. "I know you'd hate that kind of thing." Intensely moving, the novel will force readers to take stock of their lives and the people and things that make them worth living. Ages 14 up.

If I stay
This book is a very quick and easy read. It definitely held my attention as Mia struggled with her decision to fight or let go. I found myself rooting for her but understanding her difficult choice. I could see this book becoming a movie.
If I stay
I love this book I can say it is one of my favorites( I am very picky) . At least read the sample. Hope u love it as much as I do :)
WTH!
Did she get into Juilliard? Did they end up together??? The ending was abrupt and many parts dragged. I don 't agree with all the rave reviews.
