Publisher Description
A brand-new series of sweet, small town cowboy romance from USA Today bestselling author Jennie Marts. The Horse Whisperer meets Hope Floats when bubbly Bryn Callahan and brooding Zane Taylor protect an unwanted horse and end up with an animal rescue operation that they can only handle when they rely on each other.
Scarred and battered loner Zane Taylor has a gift with animals, particularly horses, but he's at a total loss when it comes to knowing how to handle women. Even though he's sworn off love, he can't seem to stay away from Bryn Callahan. He's known for being a horse whisperer, but can't seem to find his voice at all where Bryn is concerned.
Bryn Callahan has a heart for strays, but she is through trying to save damaged men. She vows to only date nice guys, which is a category that does not include Zane Taylor. Too bad he's the only one who sets her pulse racing every time she's around him.
Starting a horse rescue ranch wasn't in Bryn's plan, but try telling that to the assembly of abandoned animals that have found their way to her doorstep. And when a chance encounter with a horse headed for slaughter brings Zane and Bryn together, they find themselves given a chance to save not just the horse, but maybe each other…

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Marts (Wish Upon a Cowboy) delights with this tale of romance and recovery, the first in her Creedence Horse Rescue series. Zane Taylor returns to Creedence, Colo., to work on his family ranch as his alcoholic father recovers from a heart attack. When he spots Bryn Callahan, the diner waitress he's sweet for, and her broken-down car on the side of the road, he gives her a ride back to town, sparking a friendship. The attraction between them intensifies when he comes to her aide again, helping her to transport a badly abused horse to her farm. Bryn gets hooked on rescuing animals, taking in more horses, a pig, and a group of puppies until she's running a full-fledged rescue farm. Animal whisperer Zane agrees to help Bryn with the farm, becoming ever more drawn to her the more time they spend together. But Zane carries physical and emotional scars left by his abusive father and believes that he'll never be good enough for Bryn. Marts's fast-paced narrative and flawed but sympathetic hero make for a magnetic romance grounded in small town charm and psychological complexity. This sweet western romance spells good things for the series ahead.

A Cowboy State of Mind
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I also purchased a copy as I LOVED it!
I would love to give this more than 5 stars if I could. What a great way to start off a new series (and also be a spin off of Cowboys of Creedence!) Characters of the Cowboy of Creedence made appearances especially Logan but you don't have to read that series to enjoy this book. I adored Zane Taylor. What can I say he's a cowboy and a hot one at that. The character has a scar from his eye to this cheek (the model on the cover doesn't but his is oh so drool-worthy!) I kept going to stare at the cover while reading this. I LOVE COWBOYS!
Zane has had a rough life. He is the son of the town's drunk. His mother died giving birth to him and it is something that his father won't let him forget either. Instead of going to college, he joined the military and spent time in Afghanistan before getting shot and sent back to the states. When his father has a heart-attack, Zane leaves his job in Montana and comes home to Creedence. There is Bryn Callahan. She is the town's sweetheart. She is a waitress at the local diner and a rescuer of all things broken. Her story is heart-wrenching but she has picked herself up by the boot strap and made things worked.
These two characters are falling in love and striking sparks off of each other. Add in the miscommunication, several horses, dogs, a hog (erm pig....), a goat and you have the makings of the beginning of a rescue ranch. The author did a fabulous job of keeping the story going and keeping me glued to my e-reader. I never knew what was coming around the corner (okay, okay the next page) for these two.
There is a "bedroom" scene but it was written in such a way that it was HIGHLY glossed over and more of a fade to black than descriptive details of the act. If you love an angsty cowboy romance like I do, than I would highly recommend this to you (IF YOU ARE OVER 18 - AS I DON'T WANT TO OFFEND ANY PARENTS OF CHILDREN.)
Loved it!!
A slow burn romance that will have you sizzling by the end. I LOVED this story!! Zane had my heart breaking for him. I kept wanting to give him a hug. And Bryn is awesome! I actually found myself clapping for her in my mind when she finally stood up to her brother. This story is very relatable and has you picturing a real romance in a small country town between these two characters. It is also a sweet, fun and sexy romance that will keep you turning the page.
