Power of the written word
Wow. Just wow, Cassandra Clare. I've never written a review before, but I've done my fair share of college and high school analysis essays about books that didn't interest me. I just had to do one for a book I actually loved.
I'm no english professor or famous critic, but I think it was beautifully, beautifully done. Firstly, I think the characters are so dynamic, thanks to their development in the last two books. I love every single one of them. There is always something happening and never of dull moment. My husband was looking at me strangely because half the time I was reading this I either had a huge grin on my face or I was sobbing in a most unladylike fashion. This book reminded me how powerful the written word can be, to be able to create such strong emotions in a reader. After reading all kinds of love triangle scenario novels, this is finally one that doesn't make me want to shake the wits out some of the characters. While it takes a little while to come to terms with the way things turn out, I can't think of a more appropriate way to end the series. It was bittersweet, which I think is perfect when things like immortality and magic are involved. Other endings would have been too tragic or not true to the characters.
I fell in love with The Mortal Instruments series before this, but I think I prefer the Infernal Devices because of the characters. I love the subtle tie-ins between the two series-especially Magnus (I can't wait to read more about him).
My only complaint is I wish there were more of the Epilogue. I just want MORE. But that's only because I'm sad to part with these characters, except of course when I re-encounter them in the many re-reads to come.
If you have an open mind about love and its fluidity and many forms, and like settings that combine the supernatural and reality, then you will love this book. I sure did.
Actually read the book...
First of all, for the love of God, will people stop rating and reviewing books from a series before they've read the thing?!?
Having said that, as soon as I downloaded the book I couldn't put it down. It is the perfect ending to TID series. She manages to pace the story perfectly. There is never a lull in the action but neither are you hurried through the story. I won't include any spoilers but to say it that I didn't see how she could possibly conclude it without disappointing, but I'm happy to be wrong!
TEAM WILL!!!
Will and Tessa are perfect for each other I like Jem, I really do but i just don't think Tessa loves him nearly as much. If he wasn't dying do you think she still would have said yes, I doubt it. And then there is Will. Poor Will he finds out that he was never cursed, tells Tessa he loves her, and then she's all like I'm engaged to your parabatai! Like WHAT! Are you trying to kill us Cassandra?!? I think if Will and Tessa don't end up together I just might jump off a bridge. Enough said.
