The Designers are learning that the foundation of everything in existence is energy. While wealthy parents were looking to genetically enhance the traits they perceived would guarantee their child's success, an enlightened scientist was altering their DNA to guarantee success for the entire human race. A special synthetic strand of DNA is used on the Golden GEM to unlock the dormant pineal gland, thus opening the gateway to the supreme super-conscious mind where the ability to utilize energy is boundless. If successful, it could mean the beginning of the Golden Age for humanity. It's just the type of genetic enhancement that has a lot of powerful people in a quandary over whether to kill the Designers or try to control them.
