Publisher Description

The “dark, twisted, thought-provoking”* international bestseller—first in the series featuring Detective Helen Grace.

Two people are abducted, imprisoned, and left with a gun. As hunger and thirst set in, only one walks away alive.

It’s a game more twisted than any Detective Helen Grace has ever seen. If she hadn’t spoken with the shattered survivors herself, she almost wouldn’t believe them.

Helen is familiar with the dark sides of human nature, including her own, but this case—with its seemingly random victims—has her baffled. But as more people go missing, nothing will be more terrifying than when it all starts making sense....

Bed deb 2012 ,

Good book, just hyped up too much.

I was so excited to find this book on my front porch when I came home yesterday. I had been trying to either request it or win it. I had heard so much hype about it that I couldn't wait to read it.

While it was a weird and creepy book and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I have read better debuts that didn't get half the hype. Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty decent book and there are several jaw dropping moments and times you want to read it with your eyes closed (it can be retching for those with weak stomachs). It is very gripping and will hold your interest and I do recommend it. I just think it's a little overhyped.

Thanks W. Martin at Penguin Group and Net Galley for providing me with this free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Amazing!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat at the end of each chapter. The chapters are short, which I love because it kept my attention. The ending was crazy! I was so happy to see there are 2 more out and 2 more coming out soon! I love the Helen Grace series so far! Definitely recommend if you're into the Saw movies. They are kind of similar.

A great start to the series!

I received a free copy of this from Netgalley.

A great start to this mystery series! The story was well written and I enjoyed the twists and turns. It was a bit gruesome for my tastes, so I would not recommend it to those with weak stomachs. If you enjoy thrillers, you are probably used to that already though.

The characters are well written. They have flaws, even the main character is wrong at times. So often you read a mystery and the main detective come off as all knowing and it takes you out of the story. Allowing for a character to be wrong at times makes them much more believable.

Overall, I enjoyed reading it and would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of thrillers.
