Dig in and commit
Boy was it hard to dig into this book, but this book and series is such a gem!
I’ve fallen in love with Sarah’s other books and their flow, so it was hard to change my brain as it wanted a book with a familiar flow.
Reading the first few chapters of this first book was the hardest. Right away you’re introduced to high energy and complex characters. In addition, some of these characters die right away. That was when I set the book down and said it wasn’t for me.
One year later, upon hearing that new books are going to be added to ACOTAR and that this series was necessary, I buckled down and read it.
Yes the first few chapters were hard. I kept questioning the author’s decision to kill off such a vital and powerful chapter, but in doing so the deaths of these friends became the backbone of this series.
I am so amazed at Sarah’s ability to write series with different shades of love and adventure. This series is full of love, friendship, and grief. I found myself crying many times as only someone who has experienced loss can truly connect with these characters and their fight for truth and justice.
This book and the rest of the series is jammed packed with the best thrills and reveals. Sarah is a writer who is generous in writing really satisfying plots. I wished i read this soon!

Beautiful book. The beginning is hard stick with it as it is so good!
Has me hooked!
At first glance I had a hard time getting through all the minuet details in the beginning, but the extra context is worth it throughout the book!! Utterly captivating! Couldn’t wait to dive into the rest of the series!
Sarah J. Maas is a genius and truly incredible writer! Started the CC series after ACOTAR and so glad I did!! Love the eventual cross over! Hope to see more of that with the next one that comes out!
