A Good Start
Our introduction to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, and a good first step. Holmes is perhaps a bit too perfect, and Watson a bit too ingratiating, but Doyle will fix that with time. The main issues here are (a) how relatively simple the mystery is and (b) the long detour to a Wild West romance. Strange, by all standards, but a good read. It's also refreshing to read a novel which gives Mormons such an even-handed take.
A MUST READ
This a great book, the first half is with Sherlock holmes/Watson and the second with the background to the story. It's sad, but an amazing read all the same.
A great read
This book was completely engaging and Conan Doyle definitely displayed many influences that were prominent in his era. I throughly enjoyed the read and recommend this book to others.
The basic plot revolves around a mystery where Holmes has been engaged to help. It also explains the beginning of the friendship between Watsons and Holmes.
