Publisher Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
Many of Arthur Conan Doyle’s most brilliant and complex mysteries starring his indelible detective Sherlock Holmes can be found in this superb collection of short stories.
In twelve richly textured tales, we find Holmes and Watson investigating an aristocratic family’s odd, esoteric rituals, a nondescript box containing a grisly severed appendage, and the theft of a vitally important military treaty. We’re even treated to the only story in which the cunning Holmes’ conclusion about a case proves to be wrong.
Originally published in The Strand Magazine, these stories include the first appearances by foundational characters like Holmes’ enigmatically brilliant brother Mycroft and the villainous Professor Moriarty. Densely packed and thrillingly paced, this is a trove of exemplary mystery writing.

Sherlock Holmes always a good choice
A nice little book to read either when waiting for someone or something.
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
What can I say that hasn’t already been said throughout the years since publication of this masterpiece?
Noteworthy in that one of the stories contains the only incident (as far as I’m aware) of Holmes actually being wrong!
Enjoyable from start to finish.
