Publisher Description
A mother desperate to escape her past. An island full of deadly secrets…
Reaching the imposing beach house she’s inherited on Fanoe Island, reporter Emma Frost holds on tightly to her children’s hands. She promised to give them a fresh start in her grandmother’s old home. But she soon suspects that her grandmother was murdered. And everyone, including the police, refuses to talk about what happened…
Then Emma hears the devastating news that another woman has been killed just a few doors down. A bloody number was painted on the wall above her body, and it looks exactly like a faint red mark in Emma’s grandmother’s old bedroom.
Is this a serial killer’s deadly calling card?
Emma can’t leave Fanoe; the house is the only thing she owns. There is nowhere else she can take her children. Her only choice is to stop this killer herself, before he targets her family again.
On a close-knit, isolated island full of decades-old secrets, can Emma unravel the past and keep her children safe as a killer stalks the shores?
An unputdownable, dark and gripping crime series, which will draw you into a remote island and never let you go. Fans of Lisa Regan, Kendra Elliot and Rachel Caine won’t stop turning the pages.

Good story with a few unlikely scenarios

Hmm
Generally a good read?
It had some aspects that I really appreciate in a murder mystery, but then with added Sci-Fi(ish) elements? Started to seem a little stranger than fiction and disjointed.
There were some points where I was sure I solved it and got pretty dang close- just wait.
Trigger warning for Child SA (twice).
These parts were, for obvious reasons, very uncomfortable and disturbing to read, but to make matters worse served nothing for the plot or character development as they were never dealt with in the pages. Just here’s Child SA…. nothing to see here, move along. I didn't like that, tactless in my opinion. The characters also showed little to no compassion for each other in these moments which was confusing because during other tragedies they could express that sort of feeling and emotion for each other. Odd and unnecessary choice in my opinion, seemingly just for ick and shock value.
And this specific kind of spider only bites one character and only lives in their backyard… they are everywhere in that garden but nowhere else?… they live on an island. C'mon.
The author left a lot of loose ends regarding several subplots and it was a little disappointing. The race, race, race at the end gave me whiplash when the story, at one point had, words upon words to discuss breakfast foods. Seemed the author had a really good opportunity to show some sympathy for the characters she developed and then decided that “well it's been a month, they moved on”…. What!?!
The abrupt ending really made it seem like the author was playing a disturbed and demented game at pretend time and abruptly had to leave her toys because the street lights came on. The rushed ending after all of that was creepier than the spiders.
Not worth your time
Worst collection of words I’ve ever read.
