Reid Jackson doesn’t believe in luck. His father used to beat him. During the college football game when the NFL scouts were watching him, he was tackled by the other team and ended up having both knees replaced. He got a settlement and finished his college degree then went home to Montrose River and bought the small grocery store where he had worked. Then he bought the hardware store and a house big enough for 10 people.
But none of that was luck. It was hard work. Just about everything he had done in his life has been a negotiation including one night stands. If you don’t commit to someone, they can’t abandon you. They can’t lie about loving you. There’s just one girl he dreams about: the one from high school he couldn’t even talk to. Cassie Wilson.
Cassie has just about everything. She loves her job at Flatiron 5, loves her partners, loves her freedom. What she doesn’t love is Montrose River. She swore she would never go back, but her best friend asked her to to be the godmother of her little girl Emily. Cassie can’t refuse. What she doesn’t expect is Reid Jackson. Or that he owns half of the town. Or that she would fall so fast or so hard. Or that he would protect her and cherish her.
But both Reid and Cassie have secrets. Secrets they are both not willing to share until the right negotiations come along. Will the secrets destroy them or create one final negotiation? You will have to read this to find out!
I loved the characters and how the story line developed. Flatiron 5 sounds fascinating! Now I have to read the rest of the books in the series!
Well rounded, complex characters, intriguing storyline & scorching heat!
Cassie Wilson reluctantly returns to her hometown of Montrose River for a christening, but the bad memories she left behind threaten to overwhelm her. When she reconnects with “bad boy” Reid Jackson, their chemistry is instantaneous and scalding hot. Both initially agreeing to a friends with benefits relationship limited to the long weekend, little by little they begin to reveal themselves to each other, and intense feelings soon follow. As always, Ms. Cooke gives us well rounded, complex characters, an intriguing storyline which builds slowly, and scorching heat!
