More Than Make Believe by Tymber Dalton
Kudos to Tymber Dalton! More Than Make Believe is yet another wonderful book packed with suspense, romance and wonderfully believable and relatable characters. I couldn't put it down!
Travis Collins is a straight college student who has big problems. His stepmother has just convinced his father to stop paying him the $400 a month for his college rent. According to her, Travis needs to become "self-sufficient." He's maintaining a 4.0 grade point average, working two part-time jobs, driving a beater Chevy, and needs that $400 to pay his rent. Frustrated and angry, he doesn't know where to turn. As he's bussing tables at his coffee shop job, he picks up the classified section left on the table and notices an ad. "Looking for hot male models 18 and older. Fast and easy pay." Quickly stashing the paper, he returns to work and, during his next break, calls the number in the ad. Not surprisingly, it's simply a voicemail drop box. He leaves his name and number and returns to work. When he receives a return call, he sets an appointment to meet with Alex, the man who placed the ad. When Travis and Alex meet, Alex explains the different types of "modeling" jobs available and how much money Travis can make. Travis is dumbfounded! He actually has the possibility to make enough money to not only solve his rent problems but far more. But there's a catch. There's always a catch.
Gary Carmeletti is a college professor with a secret. One weekend a month, he is Marston Cougar, a "gay for pay" top in films. His speciality? Virgin straight men who've never had gay sex before. He started when he was in college as a way to pay for his schooling, much like Travis. Now he continues for deeply personal reasons. He never gets involved with his co-stars. In fact, he never gets involved with anyone, not since his heart was broken and he gave up on love.
Travis doesn't know if he can do this. "Gay for pay" sounds good. Well, at least the money sounds good. Actually it's fantastic! But he's straight. He's never been attracted to a man in his life. But he's desperate. He needs the money. So he phones Alex, makes the arrangements and that weekend, Craig Rocke is born. He meets Marston Cougar as they are scheduled to make their first film together. Gary/Marston meets Travis/Craig and is dumbstruck. As the two men awkwardly dance their way through their first film together, an impression is made, a seemingly unforgettable connection that both men feel. But can this lead anywhere? Travis is straight. He's only doing this for the money, right? And Gary isn't looking for anything in the way of a relationship, especially from a co-worker. But life has a strange way of turning things on their head when you least expect it.
Once again, Tymber Dalton pulls her readers into the lives of her characters with what seems like incredible ease. She is so attuned to human nature and not only the two main characters, but the minor ones as well, are so well-crafted that it's hard to believe that this story is not based on true life. I was immediately drawn into each character's story and felt every emotion they expressed. Ms. Dalton has the extraordinary ability to put you in the middle of the book and make you feel as if you are living the story right along with the characters. I am constantly amazed at just how versatile an author she is. As I've stated in previous reviews, she writes in many genres and is equally talented no matter the subject matter she is writing about. More Than Make Believe is a M/M erotic romance that will keep you completely in its grip from page one. Tymber Dalton is one the few authors who is an automatic buy for me whenever she publishes a new book. She is just that great. If you enjoy the erotic romance genre, you'll absolutely LOVE More Than Make Believe. I give it my highest rating and recommendation.
One final comment. This is an ADULT book. It contains very adult themes, explicit language, and sexual scenes. If you do not enjoy erotic romance with explicit sexual scenes then PLEASE carefully consider your purchase before buying this book. PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY BOOK IN A GENRE YOU KNOW YOU WILL NOT ENJOY AND THEN LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW OF THE BOOK AS IT IS NOT FAIR TO THE AUTHOR! She works extremely hard to provide a quality work product and if you know before you purchase a book that you will object to the subject matter contained therein, you are doing not only yourself, but the author, an extreme disservice. But if you do enjoy hot, erotic romances, I highly recommend More Than Make Believe. I give it my highest rating without reservation!
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
