Publisher Description
#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts' Circle Trilogy begins with an epic tale that breaks down the boundaries between reality and the otherworldly, while forging together the passions of the men and women caught in a battle for the fate of humanity…
In the last days of high summer, with lightning striking blue in a black sky, the sorcerer stood on a high cliff overlooking the raging sea…
Belting out his grief into the storm, Hoyt Mac Cionaoith rails against the evil that has torn his twin brother from their family’s embrace. Her name is Lilith. Existing for over a thousand years, she has lured countless men to an immortal doom with her soul-stealing kiss. But now, this woman known as vampire will stop at nothing until she rules this world—and those beyond it…
Hoyt is no match for the dark siren. But his powers come from the goddess Morrigan, and it is through her that he will get his chance at vengeance. At Morrigan’s charge, he must gather five others to form a ring of power strong enough to overcome Lilith. A circle of six: himself, the witch, the warrior, the scholar, the one of many forms, and the one he’s lost. And it is in this circle, hundreds of years in the future, where Hoyt will learn how strong his spirit—and his heart—have become…

Romance institution Roberts dives into her first paranormal series with the first book in the Circle Trilogy. In 12th-century Ireland, sorcerer Hoyt Mac Cionaoith does battle with a centuries-old vampire named Lilith, who has turned Hoyt's twin brother, Cian, into a fellow bloodsucker. Unable to defeat her, Hoyt is visited by the goddess of battle, Morrigan, who charges him with the task of leading a battle, "the greatest ever waged," against Lilith and her demons. Hoyt must gather five others to fight alongside him: "the witch, the warrior, the scholar, the one of many forms, and the one you've lost." He travels in time to present-day New York, where he encounters his vampire brother, Cian, and Glenna, a beautiful red-haired witch. Two more warriors, Moira and Larkin, join them back in the Mac Cionaoith ancestral home. Romance ignites between Hoyt and Glenna as enemies emerge from the shadows, and the "circle of six" prepare for the big showdown with Lilith. This well-plotted, finely detailed paranormal adventure is driven by richly developed characters, making it a cut above others in this subgenre, and among Roberts's best.

Morrigan's Cross
The book is really good I don't know why I did not read it before now. The story is captivating and makes you visualize the story and the characters. Nora is one of the best!
A fair and entertaining read....
I came across this work after reading the first two of the "Chronicle of the One" series. I absolutely loved Year One and Of Blood and Bone. Finding her earlier work in the fantasy genre came as a nice surprise. As I started to read, some of the luster was lost. It seems that Ms. Roberts has a bit of a time shaking her romance novel stylings, which I was not expecting, but those more familiar with her work may enjoy. I found myself seeking to skim over the details of forced overtures of devotion or intimacies between romantic interests as I looked to where the central story picked up again. In hindsight, my assumption is that this is likely Ms. Roberts' first foray into fantasy. This should not sink the reader's interest in her work in the genre, but serve to contrast of how refined her more recent work has become. Like Year One, some of the prose in Morrigan's Cross can be curt, but unlike Year One, in the current work it can be distractingly so. This is not an insurmountable hurdle, but another distraction for the reader.
All and all, the book is a good read, something worth finishing, even though some flaws are discovered by the reader, because the story is solid and interesting. As Ms. Roberts has a great deal of goodwill to me, and the story is worth continuing, I think this book serves as a good spring board to the trilogy.
Love this series!
