Though protocol dictates that mainland cops investigate the murder, Stilwell doesn't trust them, and risks further discipline in the name of untangling the mystery. The claustrophobic setting and layered plotting evoke the crime novels of John D. MacDonald, and Stilwell makes for an intriguing hero, with enough biographical gaps for Connelly to sketch him in further in subsequent installments. Loved the main protagonist
I always love a Michael Connolly novel, and this one lived up to my expectations. The main character, Stillwell, was really good. I’ll look forward to reading the next book in the series!
Not my cup of tea
Ok, imagine having to look at hours of largely useless surveillance video. Now imagine someone telling you about doing that. In the meantime, imagine the protagonist engaged in a desultory “whose **** is bigger” contest with a disliked rival via questions of who is in charge. The central mystery was sort of interesting but I gave up about halfway through. This was just too adolescent male for me.
Nightshade
This was the first book I read for this author. It was a good story and plot. I enjoyed it a lot, and will read more books from this author.
