Publisher Description
In his second book, Adam Carolla—author of New York Times bestseller In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks and chart-topping podcaster—reveals all the stories behind how he came to be the angry middle-aged man he is today.
Funnyman Adam Carolla is known for two things: hilarious rants about things that drive him crazy and personal stories about everything from his hardscrabble childhood to his slacker friends to the hypocrisy of Hollywood. He tackled rants in his first book, and now he tells his best stories and debuts some never-before-heard tales as well. Organized by the myriad "dumps" Carolla called home—through the flophouse apartments he rented in his twenties, up to the homes he personally renovated after achieving success in Hollywood—the anecdotes here follow Adam's journey and the hilarious pitfalls along the way.
Adam Carolla started broke and blue collar and has now been on the Hollywood scene for over fifteen years, yet he never lost his underdog demeanor. He's still connected to the working class guy he once was, and delivers a raw and edgy, fish-out-of-water take on the world he lives in (but mostly disagrees with), telling all the stories, no matter who he offends—family, friends or the famous.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Comedian Adam Carolla (of Loveline and The Man Show fame) recounts his awkward, impoverished, and often humiliating upbringing in Southern California's San Fernando Valley and charts his gradual rise to fame in Hollywood. Along the way, the author describes the strange characters that populated his life and the madcap situations that came to characterize his unusual brand of humor. Carolla who currently hosts a podcast called The Adam Carolla Show is clearly no stranger to voice work. Indeed, he got his start with a recurring role on Jimmy Kimmel's early radio program Kevin and Bean. Needless to say, Carolla turns in an often hilarious performance, reading with the tone of consistent bemusement that characterizes his performances. Because Carolla is known for his radio work, his fans will likely appreciate this sharply produced audio version of his memoir more than the print edition. A Crown Archetype hardcover.
Customer Reviews
He should have been reconsidered
Adam writes this book very matter of factly. You can tell he writes the way he talks and therefore the paragraphs seem more like conversations. What is poignant about this book is the continual referral to himself as a looser in his earlier life. In fact, he is the opposite. He doesn't blame others for circumstances, he just accepts it, moves on, and doesn't quit. That is not the definition of a loser.
The book has several hilarious stories and only a couple of celebrity name dropping. OK, more than several.
I would recommend this book over most other celebrity tomes because I am hoping he will read this review and offer me a job on the Man Show. What? It's off the air? Ok, I still recommend it.
Let's get it on!
I could not put this book down! I read it all on my day off from work today! I can't wait to give this to my dad for a fathers day gift!
Even better than first book
Excellent and funny book so far.
