Publisher Description
The cards never lie…and this time, the truth is deadly.
Four months into being a not-so-platonic couple, Selena Marx and Calvin Standingbear are getting into the spirit of Halloween in Globe, Arizona, complete with elaborate costumes. Selena’s even agreed — a bit hesitantly — to do a limited number of Tarot readings for her best friend Josie’s blowout Halloween bash.
The party is going spookily well…until Selena’s reading for high school principal Danny Ortega. The cards don’t hold back about his less-than-savory dalliances, predicting that karma won’t be kind. In fact, karma strikes back before the party’s even over — as Danny drops dead.
When Danny’s ghost asks Selena to uncover who killed him, she has no choice but to dig through his rather checkered romantic past for clues. All while taking the next step in her and Calvin’s relationship — meeting his parents.
And if that’s not enough to make Selena want to dive head-first into a bowl full of Halloween chocolate, discovering the heartbreaking truth behind Danny’s death might be the final blow….

Could be better
This review is of Perpetual Potions by Christine Pope. It is the forth book in the Hedgewitch for Hire series. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Note: this review contains Spoilers!
Selena Marx is a Hedgewitch in the small community of Globe, AZ. One of her best friends is hosting a huge Halloween party and has talked Selena into doing 3 Tarot card readings. Everything goes fine until Danny Ortega sits down for his reading. Although the cards don’t lie, they can be hard to understand. The Death card, however is kind of hard to ignore! So when he drops dead a little while later, were the cards really that good?
The author is a really good story teller and the book progresses nicely as Selena does her best to determine who killed Danny. We get to meet new people including Calvin’s parents who really don’t like Selena. Conversations and descriptions are up to the author’s usual level.
However, there three things that happen that just don’t fix with her usual style.
SPOILERS. DON’T READ ANY MORE OF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHO THE KILLER IS!
First, we find the killer isn’t really a killer, but someone who tried a love potion and got one of the ingredients wrong. She’s upset, but not “I killed the man I love and I’ll never forgive myself” upset. Just didn’t seem to fit. And both Selena and Calvin are almost quick to forgive her.
Second, both Calvin and Selena make kind of a big deal out of Kimberly not turning herself in until the following Monday, over a week after the party and death, but neither one follows up on it. Why bring it up if you aren’t going to resolve it some how? We never see her get arrested.
Finally, I think Selena really blew it with her cursed cat Archie. I don’t understand why she thought he would want to see a picture of himself from before he became a cat. It seemed very inconsiderate of her which doesn’t fit her personality at all.
Everyone takes their own history, feelings, and perceptions to every book they read. Even a person’s mood will effect how they read and review a book. Others will read this book and love it. This is just my view point at this moment in time. Read the book and make up your own mind!
