Charles Kingsley was an English priest, historian and novelist, famous mostly for his works Hypatia, Hereward the Wake and Westward Ho! Due to his interest in history, Kingsley wrote several historical novels and achieved a great success after publishing his works Hereward the Wake and Westward Ho! 

In his work Phaethon: Loose Thoughts for Loose Thinkers, first published in 1852, Charles Kingsley, the broad church priest, in his usual simple manner pilloried the American New England Transcendentalists.
