Publisher Description

Rialta Corsi is forbidden in more ways than one.

Her mafia father has forbidden anyone from being with her unless they win his game—a game invented to prevent an all-out war.

But that’s not the only reason she’s forbidden to me.

My plan is simple…

Win his daughter.

Win his empire.

Then destroy them all.

Finally get retribution for what was taken from me.

Ri thinks I’m her hero, that I can save her.

I’m not.

I’m nobody’s hero.

I couldn’t save Odette, a woman I love; I can’t save Ri, a woman I hate.

Retribution Kings are at it again

This review may have spoilers, not so much but a little. So go no further if you don’t want to know *

I liked the second book in this series a lot but I didn’t love it as much as I loved the first one. There wasn’t as much suspense and action. I think the suspense is what I loved so much in the first book. But maybe that is a good thing for some. The suspense in the first book nearly gave me an ulcer, and there was no break from it. There were also questions left unanswered at the end of this book. I was surprised at the end when I realized there wasn’t a third book. There was an unforeseen twist in the middle that shocked me a bit, though, and this and the resulting made for some very interesting reading. And there was some sadness in this book that really made the characters work. I did actually cry in this book in a couple of places.

There are no lengths Odette wouldn’t go to seek retribution, and no lengths Beckett would not go to keep Ri safe. Odette’s betrayal in search of that revenge ran pretty deep. She was the kind of bad that would make a serial killer look good. I did like the character development, though. She was fierce. She was a strong woman who went for what she wanted regardless of the consequences to others. There also was an event in her past that might answer some questions about why she is so evil.

Ri, as with the first book, was amazing. Her attitude and her fortitude gave the book flavor. She kicked butt and she never did need a hero. There were things after the twist in the book that gave some insight into her personality. And of course, there is Beckett. He was much the same as in the first book, cocky, strong, and underneath it all he was a softie and a romantic. I disliked him a bit in this book for what he put Ri through, but that was nothing new.

The last 15% of the book felt a little bit iffy. There were many things left unexplained. There was nothing about whether Enzo really hurt Odette in the past. That was the whole reason for the war. What Hayes, Lennox, and Gage let happen to Ri and what they failed to protect her from was unforgivable. They also failed to protect Beckett. They were passive participants in both cases. They had a lot to answer for, yet we got no answers. And why didn’t the Retribution Kings try to get retribution from Ri at the end of the book? They love the drama and violence so why weren’t they trying to do anything? The book was long but I felt it could have been a little bit longer, or there could have been a third book just to see that play out.

Triggers are rape of the MMC and cheating.

Awesome as Always!

This series did not disappoint! The first book in the series did drag a little bit, but Ella had to lay the foundation for the rest of the series. The characters were both strong willed and put others before themselves. There were enough twist and turns and spicy scenes to keep your interest until the end. I really like how the last book ended and the introduction to the next characters’ stories.

Five star worthy

I really enjoyed reading this intriguing series. It’s suspenseful and full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge. It’s worth the time I took to read it and I definitely recommend it. Five star worthy!!!.
