Publisher Description
In the bloom of her youth, Grace Stratton, now adorned with the title Duchess of Abernathy, surrendered her heart to Lewis Duffield, a magnetic American plantation owner whose touch ignited flames of passion. Yet, the weight of familial duty severed their connection, leading her to a marriage of convenience that fulfilled societal expectations. Years later, the chills of widowhood envelop her, and amidst the intricate tapestry of life, the currents of fate bring Grace face to face with her past once more.
Reunited with Lewis, the man whose memory has lingered in her heart's recesses, Grace finds herself engulfed in a storm of emotions she believed long extinguished. As the embers of their shared history smolder, they grapple with the question of whether love's flame can be rekindled after so many years of separation. The lingering glances, the unspoken words, and the resurfacing desires cast doubt and hope in equal measure.
Amidst the backdrop of aristocratic grandeur and the allure of a past love, the Duchess and the plantation owner are thrust into a delicate dance of rediscovery. Torn between the societal expectations that once governed their choices and the intoxicating pull of a connection that refuses to fade, Grace and Lewis embark on an intricate journey to navigate the labyrinth of their hearts, in search of a Scandalous Liaison that could either resurrect their passion or forever seal their fate.

Need background information to understand characters better - 3.75 stars
This was a short novella about a second chance. It helped that I had previous knowledge of the characters from earlier books in the series because this was too short to really get good character development. Grace was a bit annoying as a character which didn’t coincide with her in the other books so I was able to tolerate her a little more. It just seemed sometimes that she wasn’t very in tune to Lewis’s feelings and his hurt. Lewis, on the other hand, just seemed to feel sorry for himself because of how she chose duty over love when they were younger and seemed to be doing it again when she refused to leave London for him. Luckily, with advice from some of her younger friends, she realized her mistakes and they were able to get their happily ever after.
