In a bid to help her pregnant older sister pay for bills, a young woman must convince the owner of a secondhand bookshop to sell his property so she can get a commission, only to discover her childhood crush working behind the counter, asking her to help save his home.

When Nell's brother-in-law disappears, leaving her pregnant sister buried in bills, Nell takes on a commission that could fix everything. All she needs to do is convince the eccentric owner of a beloved secondhand bookshop to sell his property. It's a practical plan, clean and necessary—until she walks through the door and sees Thomas Whelan, her childhood crush.

The next thing she knows, she's helping stock shelves and interviewing the members of a lively (and slightly unruly) book club. She's even taking Tom on practice dates so he can woo the girl he likes. 

Nell convinces herself it's all part of the plan, a way to get in with the bookshop owner. But the more she spends time with Tom, the more she gets attached: to him, to the book club, and the bookshop that soon might not even exist.
