A modern-day classic from Newbery Medalist Jerry Spinelli, this beloved celebration of individuality is now an original movie on Disney+!
And don't miss the author's highly anticipated new novel, Dead Wednesday!
Stargirl. From the day she arrives at quiet Mica High in a burst of color and sound, the hallways hum with the murmur of “Stargirl, Stargirl.” She captures Leo Borlock’ s heart with just one smile. She sparks a school-spirit revolution with just one cheer. The students of Mica High are enchanted. At first.
Then they turn on her. Stargirl is suddenly shunned for everything that makes her different, and Leo, panicked and desperate with love, urges her to become the very thing that can destroy her: normal. In this celebration of nonconformity, Newbery Medalist Jerry Spinelli weaves a tense, emotional tale about the perils of popularity and the thrill and inspiration of first love.
Don’t miss the sequel, Love, Stargirl, as well as The Warden’s Daughter, a novel about another girl who can't help but stand out.
“Spinelli is a poet of the prepubescent. . . . No writer guides his young characters, and his readers, past these pitfalls and challenges and toward their futures with more compassion.” —The New York Times
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Catching feelings for someone unexpected is a pretty common occurrence when you’re a teen. But what happens when a simple crush becomes a test of your integrity? All of Mica High is captivated by a quirky, kindhearted former homeschooler who calls herself Stargirl. Everyone loves her bizarre fashion and ukulele serenades—at least at first. But when the school begins to turn on her, Stargirl’s smitten classmate Leo is unsure of what to do. Should he follow his heart even if it will lead to becoming an outcast? Author Jerry Spinelli describes the highs and lows of young love with passion and humor, beautifully capturing the thrilling (and scary!) feeling that happens when you can finally just be yourself with someone. In the end, this heartfelt novel reminds us that standing out may not be easy, but it’s much more fun.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
"Part fairy godmother, part outcast, part dream-come-true, the star of Spinelli's novel shares many of the mythical qualities as the protagonist of his Maniac Magee. Spinelli poses searching questions about loyalty to one's friends and oneself and leaves readers to form their own answers," said PW in our Best Books citation. Ages 12-up.

Thoughts and opinions
I read this book when I was in 5th grade so it is kind of hard to remember a lot, but wow. I loved this book! It shows and sends a message about how teen girls are outed for “being weird” yet, there’s always that one person who will forever be by their side. What an amazing book, although, it was really hard to start getting into it, since it goes really slow.
Boring
I could not get into this book. I have no other words. Goodbye.
