Sundown

I thoroughly enjoy Susan May Warren’s Romantic Suspense Series. I always look forward to her next release. Her latest release, Sundown (Sky King Ranch Book 3), is the consummate conclusion of this brilliant series. I am sad to see it come to an end. Warren sends it off by saving the most intense story for the last. (If you have read the first two books, you are wondering how could this book possibly be more intense than either of them. It is!) Her characters are realistic and relatable, her descriptions make you feel as if you see the setting and are in on the action, and her plot is heart-stopping! This could be read as a stand-alone but you would certainly miss out on much of the story. I recommend reading the series in sequential order. You will be glad you did!

Sundown is the third book in the Sky King Ranch series, and the reader would best understand the the characters and the backstory of Sundown if Sunrise and Sunburst were read first. In Sundown, Taylor Price and Colt Kingston are on the run, hiding from Russian mobsters who plan to deploy a deadly virus on U.S. soil. Taylor had figured out how to create the vaccine, but her notes are long gone, so she and her partner Zoe will have to try to re-create it. As Colt, with the help of his brothers Dodge and Ranger, and the rest of the special ops team work to take down the Russian mobsters and secure the virus, Taylor works not only to create the vaccine but to try to control the overwhelming feelings she has developed for Colt so she won’t be left with a broken heart when the mission is over.
Sundown is full of action from start to finish — a very exciting read. I really love the characters in this whole series. The Kingston brothers — Colt, Dodge, and Ranger — are all very endearing characters, as is their father. Taylor, or Tae, as she is called throughout the book is not a new character to this book. She was introduced in the first book of the series, Sunrise, and her character has been built throughout the series. But we really get to know her well in this book, and she and Colt have such great chemistry. Both of these two main characters share a brokenness that come from loss and led to a deterioration of their sense of self-worth and their sense that they deserve to be loved. It crumbled their faith, and so this story is not just about them saving the U.S. from a deadly virus or about their feelings for each other. It’s about them learning that they are worthwhile and deserving of love and that God never abandoned them. Overall, I really enjoyed reading Sundown, and I appreciate the elements of faith that the author incorporates into her stories.

Wow! Another fantastic ending for a series. Susan writes the best romantic suspense stories that draw you in and keeps you reading and turning the pages late into the night. I’ve loved this series and will definitely be reading it again.
