Publisher Description
This book marked the first time that the artist used free writing as the fundamental ground and backdrop for all drawings. By intention the writing, which had no intentional subject matter, was applied in two layers so that the second layer effectively destroyed whatever meaning might have emerged from the sum of both layers (except for the occasional spot where the second layer did not cover the first). The application of colors, solvents, masking tape, etc., was sometimes dictated by matter that had spilled through from previous pages. Throughout the process, there was a conviction that the ultimate art object was the entire book itself. After the media had dried, the artist applied wax to preserve the image.
The primary intention of the artist was to induce a state of brain activity that encompassed areas in both the left and right hemispheres, by creating a state of activity involving image processing (drawing) simultaneous with language processing (writing).
