Sometimes, the most perfect families are hiding the most terrible secrets. How well do you know the people next door…?
Everybody wants to live on Hogarth Street, the pretty, tree-lined avenue with its white houses. The new family, The Wests, are a perfect fit. Katherine and John seem so in love and their gorgeous five-year-old twins race screeching around their beautiful emerald-green lawn.
But soon people start to notice: why don’t they join backyard barbecues? Why do they brush away offers to babysit? Why, when you knock at the door, do they shut you out, rather than inviting you in?
Every family has secrets, and on the hottest day of the year, the truth is about to come out. As a tragedy unfolds behind closed doors, the dawn chorus is split by the wail of sirens. And one by one the families who tried so hard to welcome the Wests begin to realise: Hogarth Street will never be the same again.
A completely gripping, twist-packed psychological thriller, perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty, Sally Hepworth and Lisa Jewell.

Kept me enthralled
**NEEDS WARNING ADDED**
I haven’t finished reading this book yet (I will), but I had to go ahead and review for a good reason.
The book is really interesting so far -I’m halfway through it-but I had to skip to the end and spoil the twist for myself in order to continue.
Someone really needs to add a trigger warning to the description. There are very graphic depictions of domestic violence in here……..unfortunately for me, a lot of it was uncomfortably familiar, as I was a victim of some similar behaviors as what is described. I am certainly not complaining about the author, the writing, or the story itself, but if I’d known about this particular content, I would have steered clear as a DV survivor.
Without spoiling anything, I will say that skipping to the end helped enough for me to go back and continue reading, mainly because I just don’t like not finishing books once I’ve gotten started on them. But I almost stopped several times and definitely had to take some breaks.
Though interesting, it’s a pretty dark read regardless of one’s situation. But if you’ve been a victim of DV, I would not recommend this particular book.
