So refreshing!
Man of the Desert is Grace Livingston Hill's moving and sweet story of an encounter and long-distance friendship between Hazel Radcliffe and John Brownleigh. Hazel is a wealthy young lady who is used to a high society lifestyle, while John is a devout missionary to Native Americans in Arizona. He lives an austere lifestyle. When she is trying to escape a lothario's advances, Hazel accidentally becomes lost in the desert. She is lost in more ways than just geographically; she is also lost spiritually and feels lost in an unfulfilling, shallow life at home. John finds and rescues her in the desert. What will happen with this unlikely friendship? Will Hazel return to her former lifestyle, or will she find a more noble callling? Will the friends ever meet again - or will more come of it? I loved this timeless story. Ms. Hill really has a way with words, and I look forward to continuing to explore her novels.
