"At long last, I've found a book that I can hand to weary parents with the confidence that they can learn to help their baby sleep through the night--without the baby crying it out."
--William Sears, M.D., Author of The Baby Book
"When I followed the steps in this book, it only took a few nights to see a HUGE improvement. Now every night I'm getting more sleep than I've gotten in years! The best part is, there has been NO crying!"
--Becky, mother of 13-month-old Melissa
There are two schools of thought for encouraging babies to sleep through the night: the hotly debated Ferber technique of letting the baby "cry it out," or the grin-and-bear-it solution of getting up from dusk to dawn as often as necessary. If you don't believe in letting your baby cry it out, but desperately want to sleep, there is now a third option, presented in Elizabeth Pantley's sanity-saving book The No-Cry Sleep Solution.
Elizabeth’s successful solution has been tested and proven effective by scores of mothers and their babies from across the United States, Canada, and Europe. And now in response to weary parents asking for a little more guidance, Elizabeth has created fourteen brand-new videos exclusive to this enhanced ebook. Each of these three- to four-minute videos appears at the end of their specific chapter, summarizing what you have learned for quick recall or for those desperate moments when you’ve run out of ideas and need advice ASAP! Elizabeth gives you words of wisdom, tricks and tips, and soothing mantras, all that will help you get your baby sleeping.

Videos are a great bonus!
Hooray for the new chapter summary videos! I initially read the NCSS when my son was still a newborn. Pantley has a section that is geared toward babies younger than 4 months, so my focus was primarily on that. I skimmed the rest of the chapters just to get an idea of what to look for as he got beyond 4 months. As everyone knows, having a baby is time-consuming, and I didn't feel I had the time or energy to go back and read all the chapters in detail again once my son was older and the sleep issues really began. At that point, even coming up with a plan seemed overwhelming! Luckily, Pantley has added videos to the end of each chapter that summarize some of the key points, and her words of encouragement are motivating! I had planned on just watching the chapter videos, but I found that after I watched each one, I was motivated to go back and read the corresponding chapter in full. I've already started implementing some of her suggestions and seeing improvements! I really think the videos help break up the book into manageable pieces for a sleep-deprived mom to build and implement a great sleep plan.
Feels like I've been cheated...
After having read a few books on the subject it feels like this book is just a collection of the same good old ideas in a worse package, but with a few bad ideas sprinkled all over it. And when the author cited Iyanla Vanzant I thought to myself, "oh dear, where are we heading to?".
Being the father of a baby girl who started sleeping through the night when she was 4 months old and suddenly lost that ability at 7 months old, I was searching for new information in order to put her back on track. What I found out in this book:
1) we're extremely lucky parents (really?);
2) 1 or 2 wakings during the night is totally acceptable (doubt that!);
3) deep sleep in early months might be bad for the development of the baby (what???);
4) the author is a co-sleeping advocate (danger!!!).
And when you consider that the author's 4th child still woke up 8 times a night at 12 months old (that's when she decided to create a "plan"!!!), it makes you think "what does this lady really know about baby sleep?".
Videos make this book very accessible
The addition of videos to The No-Cry Sleep Solution is a boon to this already extremely helpful book. In them, Pantley is warm, calming, and reassuring. Helping a baby to sleep better is a trying and exasperating task (I say this from current experience, and I haven’t succeeded just yet!), and Pantley’s reassurance in these videos is reenergizing. It can be hard to keep going with a new plan when your outside support is just the words on a page. Through her videos, Pantley offers the reader another way to look at each chapter’s lessons, and I think it has made the book even more accessible.
