Publisher Description

FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR DR. JASON FUNG: The landmark book that is helping millions around the world achieve natural weight loss.

The Obesity Code is a groundbreaking, science-based guide to lasting weight loss that goes beyond “calories in, calories out.” Instead of blaming lack of willpower, practicing physician Dr. Fung explains how hormones—especially insulin—drive weight gain, cravings, and stubborn belly fat. If you’ve tried countless diets and always regain the weight, this book shows you why, and what to do differently.

Drawing on clinical research and real patient success stories, The Obesity Code reveals how insulin resistance and constantly elevated insulin levels lock your body into fat-storage mode. Traditional low‑fat diets, frequent snacking, and severe calorie restriction can actually make things worse, slowing your metabolism and increasing hunger. Dr. Fung shows you how to work with your biology instead of against it, so you can lose weight naturally and improve your metabolic health.

Dr. Fung is often cited as the founder of intermittent fasting for weight loss. Rather than another restrictive fad, intermittent fasting is a flexible, practical tool you can adapt to your lifestyle. You’ll learn:
How intermittent fasting helps lower insulin and unlock stored fatDifferent fasting methods (including 16:8, 24‑hour fasts, and more)How to start safely and manage hunger, social events, and busy days
In addition to when you eat, Dr. Fung explains what to eat for sustainable, natural weight loss. The Obesity Code emphasizes:
Whole, unprocessed foods instead of ultra‑processed snacksMinimizing sugar and refined carbohydrates that spike insulinIncluding healthy fats, quality protein, and fiber‑rich vegetablesA realistic, adaptable approach rather than a rigid, one‑size‑fits‑all diet
Whether your goal is to lose weight, reduce belly fat, reverse pre‑diabetes or type 2 diabetes, or simply improve overall health and wellness, The Obesity Code provides clear explanations and actionable steps. It’s ideal for readers who want to:
Lose weight naturallyLearn how to intermittent fast for weight lossReverse insulin resistanceGain science-backed weight loss information
If you’re tired of yo‑yo dieting, conflicting diet advice, and short‑term fixes, The Obesity Code offers a clear, evidence‑based roadmap to lasting change. Learn how to rebalance your hormones, use intermittent fasting effectively, and finally achieve the healthy, sustainable weight loss you’ve been looking for.

Spoken in Common, Understandable Terms

Whether you agree with everything written here, or question if studies are cherry picked to support a theory, the fact is this book explains itself well. Understanding its message could be life saving for some, and it’s not hard to do. A clean, and easy read to help everyone understand the human bodies functions of getting fat.

Very informative

This truth about obesity is finally coming to light! Thank you Dr. Fund for your research and for sharing this information. For once in my life I feel like I'm not abnormal. I just have a sensitivity to insulin that was being worsened by doing everything the so-called experts told me to. But no more! I'm now on a LHCF diet and I'm the healthiest I've ever been!

I loved this

Weighing 320 lbs and suffering for it I tried several diets only to gain more back months later. At 59 I decided to have another go at it without following any book or method. By accident I did a lot of things right. On my 60th birthday I stepped on the scale at my cardiologist’s office and weighed 178 lbs. I ate one meal a day, all whole foods. When I was light enough I started hiking daily which was a huge stress relief. My mistake was extreme consistency in diet and routine which led to several prolonged and frustrating plateaus. My cardiologist tested my metabolic rate 3 times that year and I was discouraged it kept dropping. This book helped me understand why. I kept the weight off for 2 years but year 3 I gained 65 lbs. the problem was I stopped weighing myself and I started eating 3 small meals a day 3 plus a fruit snack. I kept it all under 1200 calories a day but still gained. Friends told me I was doing intermittent fasting. So I decided to start reading up on the subject. This book kept getting mentioned. For the last 6 weeks I started one meal a day (24 hr fast) again, added one 3 meals a day, and one 36 hr fast. I’ve lost 25 lbs. To those of you who give this negative reviews I am living proof this works. I had no clue what I was doing and didn’t understand why. I just knew I didn’t want to repeat the cycle again. I bought this book yesterday and finished it today. Now that I understand the mechanics I know how to reset my fat thermostat to be low permanently. I found fasting to be invigorating and was never sick when I was doing it. If you want more than someone’s negative opinion take my example. It changed and saved my life. I’m living proof.
