Publisher Description
THE POLAR TREASURE and PIRATE OF THE PACIFIC are the 4th and 5th Doc Savage novels to appear in print, in 1933. Both are real eye-openers if you are only familiar with the much later novels. In THE POLAR TREASURE Doc, in hand-to-hand combat, deliberately disables and mutilates his opponents. The majority will never recover. When he uses a gun, in self defense, he invariably shoots to kill! He does have a mysterious way to make opponents become unconscious at a touch of his hand, but this is not the "nerve pinch" of later novels, but rather a totally preposterous gadget Doc wears on his hands! The explanation for the relentless violence is that what is printed here is the original text of the novel by Lester Dent
Customer Reviews
Great yarn, with some decidedly non-PC parts!
This is a fun pirate yarn, full of rip-roaring action and a pace that never lets up. In fact, I'd have given it a full 5 stars, but for the fact that its treatment of the native Arctic people leaves much to be dhesired. And I'm not even referring to their being called Eskimos. That's the least of the possible offenses here. But if you can get past that, and some ideas about recovery from vision loss that are a bit laughable given what we now know, this is a fantastic read!
