Good set-up for new series
This novella is a good back ground story for Fallon Jones and intriguing set up for a new series about Vortex. I liked the hard-boiled detective writing style-spare and economical, condensed description but with a real sense of place. Pulls together a lot of loose ends such as the crystal weapons and uses the character of Arizona Snow to good effect. It also explains why a loner like Fallon Jones would be hanging out in a coffee shop, which is a wry observation about his character. This is a series that readers will appreciate with re-reading.
Don't bother...
Normally I like books written by Jayne Ann Krentz, but this was a disjointed mess that made no sense at all. Spanning a total of 35 pages, it was like reading the cliff notes of a reader's digest version that gave no backstory at all. The most understandable part of the story was the memo at the beginning.
Awful!
What was the author thinking. The writing style used makes the story difficult to follow.
