When in trouble, seek a Highlander ...

Even if you pushed him into a river ten years ago ...

When Evie McKnight slams into Jamie Mackenzie on a quay on Southampton, she flashes back to the day she accidentally knocked him into the river Cam. When she fished him out again, he shocked her with a searing, bold kiss before walking away in dripping wet shirt and kilt.

Evie has no business reveling in memories of Jamie then and the nearness of him now—she is betrothed to a respectable man from a respectable and wealthy family. But Jamie appears everywhere in London, assisting Evie and her sisters, becoming friends with her fiancé, and agreeing to be drawn into the heist Evie has planned in order to save her best friend's father from ruin.

The son and heir of Ian Mackenzie, Jamie has roamed the world encountering adventure after adventure, and now he's back home to settle down as he promised his family. But Jamie is restless, searching for something he can't seem to find, trying to live up to his potential as the son of a genius.

When he sees Evie again, he knows what he's been striving for, and he is not going to let the trivial matter of her betrothal to a dull stick and the fact that she wants to break into the British Museum put him off. Jamie is Ian Mackenzie's son all right—he'll use all the Mackenzie determination and adroitness to prove that she is for him, and he for her.

Jamie McKnight’s first encounter with Ian Mackenzie’s dashing son was at school when she accidentally pushed him into a river six years ago. Except he had left her with a steaming, unforgettable, kiss, one where he was soaking wet in only a shirt and a kilt. One kiss that neither of them ever forgot about. Now they cross paths again, Evie McKnight thinks he’s interested in this new American heiress looking for a titled husband, but boy she couldn’t be more wrong. Plus the fact Jamie wasn’t titled though his relatives were and the entire MacKenzie family were definitely far from being poor! The only woman Jamie MacKenzie is interested in is Evie McKnight, a woman who is already betrothed to a wealthy, well bred man from a good family but one sounding very dull and boring. A fiancé that didn’t even come to greet his missing fiancé he hadn’t seen in months! Another strike against the fiancé according to Jamie, a woman he can’t help but desire! The problem is Evie also feels this attraction to Jamie MacKenzie even though she knows it is so wrong, in addition she is betrothed to a totally different kind of man.

What is even worse Evie McKnight keeps bumping into Jamie Mackenzie wherever she goes it seems. Jamie even helps out Evie’s entire stranded family when their travel plans were somehow got lost for their first night back in London. Now again Evie bumps into Jamie. Not that Evie wasn’t suspicious seeing him at The British Museum as he slowly becomes part of her entourage. Now he soon becomes entangled in Evie’s plan to save her best friend’s father from ruin. As her friends father unintentionally gave away a priceless vase which could ruin him-‘so basically they have to retrieve this vase. Jamie is right in the middle of this plan and this is how Jamie seems so exciting compared to her dull fiancé.

Will there be a happy ever after for Jamie and Evie when she is already taken and betrothed to marry another. The problem for Jamie is a Mackenzie and so many in his family seem to find their perfect soulmate. So he does not want to just settle he wants his perfect match and he is convinced that is Evie McKnight. Even Jamie’s parents are perfect mates as Ian and Beth will kiss and show their affection in public. This is what Jamie wants too, the perfect mate and the only person that qualifies and makes him feel this way is Evie! A woman who is marrying someone else which sounds very familiar to his parents, Ian and Beth’s love story. Will Jamie have a broken shattered heart forever as he knows without Evie it shall never be mended. Read and find out in another spectacular Mackenzie tale.

Again, another brilliant Mackenzie tale by the spectacular storyteller Jennifer Ashley and one I absolutely loved. This is the twelfth book in the Mackenzie and McBride’s series, which I have read and loved each and every single brilliant one. Jamie’s father Ian is my favorite Mackenzie and at first I was on the fence, not knowing how I felt about Ian and Beth having adult children. Yet I am thrilled to say Ms. Ashley wrote another extraordinary story plus so many other MacKenzie characters from previous books appeared in this one too. It was done brilliantly and of course Ian and Beth Mackenzie are still ageless, in my mind they will always be forever young!

You can read this as a stand alone book if you are new to Jennifer Ashley books. I do recommend to read every book in this beautiful series and know their background. For me it made me understand Jamie a lot better knowing his parents, and other MacKenzie family members stories. Furthermore, it made me feel like I was a part of this family reunion too! I just loved this book so very much and sure I will read it again as that is how I roll with my Mackenzie novels!
