The Trouble With Witches
Publisher Description
Shadowvale isn’t typical small town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse.
No one knows this as well as raven shifter Deacon Evermore, who, like everyone in his family, has a curse. While his position as Shadowvale’s peacekeeper lets him use that curse for good, he’d rather live anywhere else. He stays for his family, but doubts he can last much longer.
Fledgling witch Emeranth Greer is determined to escape her past and make a fresh start in Shadowvale with the aunt she’s never met. Her aunt and the town prove to be far better than she imagined. There’s no way Em is leaving this magical place. Especially when staying means more time with the handsome Deacon.
But when Em’s troubled past catches up with her and nearly destroys the romance budding between her and Deacon, her instinct is to run again. Except there’s magic in the mix now and the town won’t let her leave. Only Deacon can save her, but can a cursed man clear her name…or will her history destroy them both?

Captivating Life Discovery
Emerath, one of the main characters, is quite peculiar, and her whole understanding of who she is unveiled as the book progressed. I would have loved more interesting action and twists to the people who were cursed.
Build up to plateau
The book begins in a playful way and the concept of the town and characters is quite interesting! BUT the love story to me felt very awkward because they had only known each other for a week and there wasn’t any depth to their relationship. I kept waiting for magical danger to arise or some mystery to solve (other than the given trouble with the law that to me wasn’t even a problem considering the logic of Shadowvale) or even other love interests to show up and stir the pot but my waiting was useless. I really wanted more out of the book because it set up a wide range of possibilities and intensities that just fell through. For example it would’ve been much more interesting to have something go wrong with the book in the Forrest and Em and Amelia had to join magical forces and redeem what it means to have a family bond-or even to go more in depth about ‘Em not being able to leave Shadowvale because that’s her curse now. I don’t know…..just knowing what the next books are about I just feel a tiny disappointed in the direction this went.
