Publisher Description
This, the third volume of the series, is a selected set of revised versions of the theological musings of selected philosophers, together with four transliterated and reconstructed parables from modern prophet poets. All the texts been transliterated to conform, insofar as that is possible, with modern scientific understanding, and hopefully to make them easier to read. All are liberal, in its widest sense, but the authors, be they poet, philosopher or both, were that anyway.
The order of the texts is entirely arbitrary. The volume commences with Tom Paine’s, superb demolition of the incoherent dogmatism of much of Judaeo-Christian scripture, with further philosophical pieces succeeding. The theological parables follow as a somewhat lighter interlude, and the condensations from Locke and Kant have been placed towards the end as the technically most challenging pieces. The short extract from Jung is something of a one-off, but it also in a way effectively acts as an appropriate conclusion for the volume.
