APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Jasmine Guillory's charming debut novel puts a fresh, upbeat twist on the rom-com and highlights the pitfalls of modern dating. Stuck in a hotel elevator with sexy stranger Drew Nichols, Alexa Monroe gives into a whim and agrees to accompany him as his plus-one at his ex's wedding. A weekend flirtation turns into more, and suddenly Alexa and Drew are two busy professionals struggling to balance a long-distance interracial relationship. Alexa is a whip-smart, powerful heroine, devoted to her high-profile job as chief of staff for the mayor of Berkeley, California. We love how Guillory introduces real-world conflict and issues without ever getting too heavy.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In Guillory's flat debut, a stalled elevator sparks a fake date that leads to muddled emotions. After Drew Nichols, a sexy pediatrician from Los Angeles, and Alexa Monroe, the Berkeley mayor's chief of staff, are stuck in an elevator together, he inexplicably asks her to be his date at his ex-girlfriend's wedding. The charade develops into a long-distance relationship stifled by doubts and overthinking as the two protagonists attempt to reconcile their emotions and questions about each other's feelings. There are some awkward, sweet, and sexy moments between the newly acquainted characters, but the story wanes as Alexa and Drew attempt a real relationship; complications aren't developed, and the constant overthinking diminishes the strengths of the characters. Mundane details and stilted dialogue add little complexity to the plot or characters, slowing the narrative pace. The protagonists have some amusing quirks and habits that reveal their flaws, but overuse destroys their charm. The lack of exposition and rushed narrative make it difficult to fully identify with the characters or stay engaged with the story, in spite of some sensual episodes.

Light & Enjoyable
Drew Nichols needed a date. The last thing he wanted was to be at his ex-girlfriend’s wedding, alone, looking like a pathetic loser. He probably deserved it, though. Drew had been a complete jerk. But, luck was on his side. The day before the wedding, Alexa showed up in his life. She was an intelligent, sexy woman, who fell for Drew’s sad story and agreed to be his fake girlfriend for the event.
Alexa was anxious, about attending the wedding date, but excited too. Drew Nichols was not only a handsome physician; he was a funny one. Drew didn’t do relationships, however, so Alexa never expected to meet up with him, after her acting scheme, was over. But, that’s exactly what happened. One date turned into two, and then into something much more. Alexa tried not to over think things. Drew was not a commitment kind of guy. Alexa knew this, and yet, she couldn’t stop her heart from falling for him. As with all relationships, however, nothing is set in stone; feelings change, black and white opinions, become gray, and easy, becomes hard.
Although The Wedding Date was an enjoyable, romantic and fun story, it lacked depth. If you are looking for a light romance with humor, though, this just might be the book for you.

The wedding date

really liked it
This was such a fun quirky read. There were some parts that had me laughing, and parts that warmed my heart. Alexa and Drew both work all the time. Neither has time nor wants to have a girlfriend or boyfriend. Little do they know that fate is going to knock them over the head. Alexa is meeting her sister who just got a partnership at a law firm. Drew is in town attending his best friend’s wedding as a groomsman. What makes it even more awkward is the friend is marrying Drew’s exgirlfriend. So Drew needs a date so he doesn’t look bad. Him and Alexa are on the same elevator when they get stuck. Luckily, she has cheese and cracker in her purse that she was planning on celebrating with her sister, along with a bottle of champagne. Drew thinks to ask her to attend the wedding with him. She will have to fake being his girlfriend.
It was so much fun to read about Alexa and Drew faking their romance. But from the beginning, it wasn’t very hard. They both found themselves constantly holding hands or touching each other in some way. Too bad they live a long way from each other. They stay in touch and start a long distance relationship. There are a lot of bumps in the road and a lot Alexa doesn’t know about Drew. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were so well developed. I feel like I know all of them. I would like to see the author write a book with Carlos finding his better half. I really liked his character.
The reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because of the reference about the trouble Olivia got in as a kid and how if it had been Drew, the cops would have done anything because he is white. That’s racist. And it offends me because my hubby was a cop for years and he was never that way. Yes, I know there are some that are but not all of the.
Pretty good
This was a really cute story. I liked it a lot. It’s pretty predictable and repetitive at times but I’m a sucker for a good love story.
