When Bryony Ashley's father dies under mysterious circumstances, his final words are a cryptic warning to her.
Bryony returns from abroad to Ashley Court: the tumbledown ancestral home of the Ashley family, all blessed with 'the gift' of being able to speak to each other without words.
Ashley Court is full of secrets. What did her father's message mean? What lies at the centre of the overgrown maze in the gardens? And who is trying to prevent Bryony from discovering the truth?
Curl up by the fire and get ready to be transported by the Queen of the Romantic Mystery, Mary Stewart.

Can’t put it down
Amazing, magical read! I read it when I was 12 and again years later now and it still enthralls.
Touch Not The Cat
I discovered Mary Stewart through this book a few years after I finished at my first college. I went on to enjoy her historical fiction works built around the legend and history of King Arthur & Merlin. Mary Stewart reached into the past in many of her works and brought the reader, like a time traveler, into a vividly described medieval world. Touch Not The Cat, a story set in the time after WWII, with a story line reaching back into a time when many English manors and castles were still inhabited by centuries-old family groups, is my favorite of all her works.
Mary Stewart Reigns
She’s in a genre all her own. Mystery. Romance. An almost other-worldliness. Touch Not the Cat certainly begins a nice into that other/worldliness, But I’d never hesitate to pick up any book by this engrossing author.
