Merciless.
Cutthroat.
Powerful.
A LORD WITH LEGENDARY CONTROL…
Ashton puts business before everything else, especially love. As a member of the infamous League of Rogues, he’s no stranger to scandal. His bedroom conquests are as legendary as his fortune. As he searches for a way to bring down an old enemy bent on destroying the lives of his friends, the last thing he needs is a Scottish widow getting in his way.
A FIERY WOMAN WHO WON’T BACK DOWN…
The daughter of a Scottish lord with a dark and treacherous past, Rosalind Melbourne has spent years distancing from her past. After escaping her tyrannical father and marrying an aging English lord, she has become a powerful widow with a business empire at her command. She’s never had room in her life for love. Especially not with her business rival Ashton, a man with a scandalous reputation as striking as his blue eyes.
A GAME OF WITS TURNS TO A GAME OF SEDUCTION…
Falling in love could cost Rosalind what she values most: Money and freedom. But when Ashton discovers Rosalind might hold the key to saving the League of Rogues, he knows he will do anything to woo his wicked lass. As dark forces rise to keep them from exposing a deadly spymaster, their game of seduction turns into a game of survival…
Warning: This book includes a brooding baron who’s wild in bed, a crafty Scottish lass who never knows when to quit, a wicked game of strip chess, and a merry band of rogues whose first instinct is to run when they hear wedding bells ring.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Clever wit and predictability are the hallmarks of Smith's fourth League of Rogues historical erotic romance (after Her Wicked Proposal), set in 1821 England. Lady Rosalind Melbourne is a young widow who is the agent of her own destiny. The death of her husband left her well off and in charge of her own businesses. Baron Ashton Lennox is a member of a small, exclusive brotherhood known as the League of Rogues, gentlemen loyal only to each other and their spouses. Ashton is determined to avoid marriage, which he sees as a trap, and is focused on bringing down Hugo Waverly, a lifelong nemesis of the Rogues who happens to be Rosalind's business partner. Rosalind readily engages Ashton in a battle of business acumen, and both make strategic moves as well as occasional risqu ones. Ashton enjoys the thrill of the chase; for Rosalind the stakes are much higher, and she's determined to win. Smith starts off strong with a unique view of the London elite of the time and richly detailed backstories for the characters, but the cycling through mutual respect, arguing, and passion starts to feel repetitive, and the sex scenes are awkward. Great New Addition To Series
This is book four in Lauren Smith's League Of Rogues series. Each book has been great, so I highly recommend the entire series.
Oh my -- I absolutely LOVED Ashton. He is the rogue who was always in control of himself and whatever situation he found himself in. Every move is calculated, evaluated, planned and then executed with precision. So, when a little Scots widow (Rosalind Melbourne) starts competing (and winning) with him in various business deals, he decides he better check things out. Of course, he finds that she has ties to the villain of the series. In order to be able to legally check her books and other business dealings, he buys up her debts and gains control over her businesses.
To say that she wasn't pleased is putting it mildly. She heads out to his estate to clear things up and the story goes from there. I won't tell you the details, because that would spoil the story an you really need to read it for yourself!!! Let's just say that their trip to the HEA is far from smooth. It includes deadly illnesses, near drownings, kidnappings and shootings. It is definitely far from smooth and steady.
They almost get the bad guy in the end -- but -- of course, if they did that there wouldn't be any reason for the next two books in the series. I'm looking forward to the book featuring Charles because he is the most damaged of the lot of them and I'd love for him to find a happy ending. I believe there are only supposed to be two more books in the series, but I'd sure like to see HEA's for Rosalind's brothers (I really liked them), Ashton's sister and Cedric's sister (actually I think she'll get her HEA with Jonathon).
I surely hope you'll read this book and this series because all of them are good.
Wicked Rivals Indeed
Ashton and Rosalind are business rivals. Ashton hates being bested by a woman more than anything. So he devises a plan to own Rosalind, Lady Melbourne by buying up her debts and having the banks not extend her credit. Rosalind is furious with Ashton and sets off to fix the problem. As she travels to his estate she is robbed by a highwayman who
Oops just like Ashton and is forced to walk two miles to his house in the rain. His mother assumes they are mArrying and Rosalind goes along with it to get her company back. As they fall in Love Ashton falls sick and Rosalind learns the truth about why he took her companies to get back at her partner Hugo l who is out to destroy the League of Rogues members. I loved the story and the league especially their wives. Charles is a pain in the but and can't wait for his story. A great read and I recommend it.
Love this book.
This the fourth installment of the League of Rogues Series. I got hooked on this series back in October of 2014. Mrs. Lauren Smith did not disappoint me. It was a home run of a series. I could not wait to devour this book. I love each and every one of the rogues. Ashton Lennox is the level-headed of the group. He would always have a plan and a way to execute it. When Ashton meets a rival whom gets under his skin. He has to dominate her. Rosalind Melbourne had to fight all her life. She was not goes to let Mr. Lennox get the best of her. It was a crazy and wild ride. I love every minute of it. It is good to revisit the other characters like family. I can't wait to read the next book. This story is a wonderful book.
