Quick read with all the tropes (and weapons)
Author
American. Ex-Navy SEAL who now churns out novels about, you guessed it, an indestructible Navy SEAL constantly beset by “events, dear boy, events.” Volume one, The Terminal List, has been made into a TV series starring Chris Pratt by Amazon. (Debuts July 2022, I believe).
Plot
Our boy is resting up, by which I mean training intensely both physically and with many weapons, in the wilds of Montana . With him is the new love of life (his wife and kid got dead in Volume 1): an investigative journalist (cute one). He’s called into service by the President no less (an old mate. See Volume 4, or was that 3) to deal with yet another threat to the free world and to give our boy another chance to take out the Arab sniper who killed his best SEAL mate (see volume whatever). Things move along at Mr Carr’s usual lightning pace across several continents. Our boy cops an improbable amount of physical damage, nearly gets dead again several times, but doesn’t. Back to Montana for some steaks and a big final twist to set up volume 6.
Writing
It’s all about that pace. And technical details. Lots of technical details. About weapons. So many weapons.
Bottom line
A quick read that includes all the tropes. And weapons. Did I mention those?
Footnote
Mr Carr hosts a podcast where he and his pals wax lyrical and in great detail about guns. Good luck restricting access to hi-tech weaponry, Mr Biden.
