Publisher Description
A hidden identities, enemies-to-lovers, feel good romp from a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author:
Unpaid and under-appreciated journalist Miss Eve Shelling never goes anywhere without a trusty notebook and her overprotective Duenna—who happens to be a bullmastiff. Eve learned the hard way that men are not to be trusted. She’s definitely not falling head-over-heels for the deceptively charming subject of her front-page column.
Local blacksmith Monsieur Sébastien le Duc is the pillar of his community—when he’s not pillaging elsewhere. He’s a rakish dandy with a heart of stolen gold and two teeny tiny secrets. One happens to be a wee international smuggling operation. The other involves losing his heart to an ambitious journalist determined to expose the truth at any cost…

Unexpected love
Two, essentially, lonely people who want to please their families. Each of them is putting themselves second. Sebastian works hard for his brother’s dream, while Eve works hard to prove herself worthy. Of her father’s notice.
Miss Eve Shelling writes for the local Cressmouth Gazette, which is owned by her father. He disapproves of her foray into ‘real’ stories. He wants the paper to continue as an advertisement for how wonderful Christmas is. Eve wants his approval, but she also wants more out of her life and the paper.
Sebastian Le Duc is trying to help his brother get back to France to try and regain their lost property. They fled France as very young men and have been planning to return ever since.
These two lovely people get to know each other when Sebastian decides to place the smithy, where he works, up for sale. Eve agrees to run the advertisement and to spending time with Sebastian to get a feel for her article. Their attraction evolves slowly and is put to the test. Is ones family and all its complications, an impediment to personal desires and dreams? This is the question facing Eve and Bastian.
It is so nice to see both of them make declarations without the expectation of a equally strong response. I especially like Bastian, as he never pays serious attention to the many females that flirt with him. Eve catches his eye and his focus is on her, even though she doesn’t flirt. They were made for each other.
