"The Lie is absolutely brilliant – The Beach, only darker, more thrilling and more tense. It's the story of a twisted, distorted friendship. It's a compelling, addictive and wonderfully written tale. Can't recommend it enough."

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Jane Hughes seems to have it all, but someone knows her terrifying secret—and they’re determined to expose and destroy her. Switching between present-day Wales and events from five years ago, this tense, compelling novel slowly teases out Jane’s true identity. The backstory, set in remote Nepal, helps C. L. Taylor’s novel stand apart from other psychological thrillers. We love the way Hughes' story raises provocative questions about the darker side of human nature.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Veterinary aide Jane Hughes, the heroine of this dark, intermittently gripping thriller from British author Taylor (Before I Wake), has created a new life in Wales after a disastrous trip to a spa in the mountains of Nepal cost two of her friends their lives. Jane, whose birth name is Emma Woolfe, lives in terror that the past will catch up to her, as indeed it does. Two voices share the narrative: Emma's from five years earlier and Jane's in the present. The spa slowly reveals its evil heart, but the drama is undercut by the women's implausible behavior. They aren't at the spa more than a day before the reader is tempted to shout, "Stay out of the cellar! Run!" But of course they don't. In the more suspenseful present-day chapters, Jane clings to her fragile new existence as someone tries to destroy it. This otherwise grim tales closes on a note of hope.

Good read
Worth the read
Almost perfect
I really liked the book. The writing was good and it flowed between the past and the present timelines within in the story perfectly. However, the ending, although making sense, just wasn’t gripping enough for me. It would have been better if the evil person wasn’t so obvious but rather it had a twist to it. I don’t know just my opinion but regardless still a great read and would read again.
The best thriller!
Wow I could not put this down it’s a great read
