Publisher Description

DI Kelly Porter is about to discover just how dark things can get in the Lake District.

When a young woman is found unclothed, unspeaking at an ancient stone circle it's not clear if any crime has been committed. DI Kelly Porter and her team start looking into the circumstances, but the mystery girl disappears.

Soon after, a brutal murder is committed and sinister markings at the scene indicate that the killer had a message. The investigation reveals that in the beautiful Lake District there are those who believe in ancient ways, and within those circles old resentments are spilling over into terrible violence.

Kelly has all the pieces to solve the puzzle, but to put them together she must confront a figure from her past: one who nearly destroyed all that she holds dear. Will she avoid the same fate this time, or can the killer stay one step ahead of her to the bitter end?

A captivating and atmospheric detective novel from million copy bestseller Rachel Lynch, perfect for fans of Patricia Gibney and Cara Hunter.

Livingwithaspringer ,

Not my favourite book in this series but still very good.

For all the other books in the series I have unhesitatingly given 5*. It took me a long time to get used to the subject matter in this one. I won’t give any details as it would spoil the story for future readers. Also the plot didn’t seem quite as tightly constructed as it might have been perhaps because I guessed too much long before the police did.
For some reason with this particular book, I kept being distracted by double figures of grammatical mistakes, mainly ‘sat’ being used when correctly it should have been ‘sitting’. It might seem petty but it annoys me.
What the author does really well is use the Lake District setting to great effect, enhancing the story. At times you can feel you’re there.
I feel bad being SLIGHTLY less enthusiastic about this book than I have been about the others but it’s still well worth reading.

Not up to Rachel Lynch’s normally high standard

Probably the weakest of what is, so far, a good series. Without giving anything away, the killer is blindingly obvious from early on and the only real suspense is whether DI Kelly Porter will catch up with the rest of us before the end of the book. Even at the end, there is no explanation of how the killer committed the murders, which the author recognises near the end would be difficult for them to have accomplished alone.

Blood Rites

Have now finished all six books in four weeks. Very much of the Midsommer Murders genre with a few deliberate mistakes thrown in probably due to haste in getting to press. Never the less all six were a good read with some pointed comment on the dangers posed by drugs and social media in modern life and parenting.
