Publisher Description
It takes a killer to stop a killer.
New Orleans is in the grip of Carnival, where masks hide more than faces and the streets thrum with chaos. For retired DEA agent Robert King, business is booming—and so is the danger. His private investigations have a darker, unspoken purpose: helping his niece, Louie Thorne, use her supernatural ability to hunt monsters without losing what remains of her humanity.
But Lou doesn't believe in restraint. King does.
When Lou identifies a serial killer stalking women under the cover of the festivities, King makes a desperate choice. If they kill him too soon, justice will never come—and the families he's already destroyed will never have answers. Lou must take the man alive…even as the clock ticks down on his next victim.
As the hunt escalates, the danger turns personal. Melandra Durand—owner of an occult shop in the French Quarter and King's closest ally—finds her carefully built life unraveling when her abusive husband is released from prison. The past she escaped is no longer content to stay buried.
With multiple women in mortal danger and the city itself feeding the madness, Lou is forced to confront an impossible question:
How do you stop a monster without becoming one—and what does it cost to try?
Carnival is a dark, atmospheric vigilante thriller set against the fever dream of New Orleans, where justice, obsession, and survival collide—and no one gets out untouched.

Kory Never Disappoints
I initially read the 6th story and then the first 3 followed by this one. I really like Kory’s other books. They are different and what I especially like in this series is the character development. Some series fall down badly because their characters never ‘move on’ and are the same old people in each story. This to me makes a lot of long series ‘unreadable’ after the first few books.
Kory doesn’t have this problem. She keeps the interest and drive going through each book. She also comes up with some surprises each time to keep you on your toes. Don’t know where Kory gets all her ideas from, but maybe Lou is her alter ego. I’ll keep watching the shadows.
Onward to book 5 and hopefully the new 2063 novel coming soon.

Loved it
Another great read
Another great Lou Thorne book, I was lucky enough to be given an advanced reader copy of this book to read and review, I was not disappointed.
Well written as always.
There are some shocking and unexpected twists in this story, if you’ve read the other books in this series then you may know the characters well, or do you?
I think that Kory is an excellent writer and I look forward to many more stories in this series.
If you like these books then you will also love her other books.
