Customer Reviews
Big fan of the awesome Mick Heron, but…
.. this was a B Grade to his normal A*,
I know short stories are harder to write. However, Big Mick is a Heavy Weight in the World of Spy and Crime Writing, this book deigned to fall a little short. There seemed to be a certain un-va-va-voom energy about a few of the endings, here. There were a couple of tales here that seemed to blow out the last fumes with a whimper. I say all of this with the utmost of respect, indeed, I have his next Slow Horses book on pre-order, so, It’s not like I’m jumping ship. If you are thinking about buying it - still do so as there’s enough entertainment to go for the price it is now. I bought the Hard Back at the Full Monty £, so it felt a little disappointing. I hate having to leave a review like this for this author, but if being a serious reviewer, one must be honest, it’s the least we can do to let authors know how they’re doing.
A very engaging collection.
I enjoyed the sheer breadth of this treasure trove of escapism. The one which really stood out was the plausible meet between two intelligent and world weary experts in the spy game. I shall never look at a congregation as a homogeneous mass again. It made me realise the very real danger that members of the security services face in Keeping Britain great.God Bless!
Mick Herron short story writer
An excellent introduction to Jackson Lamb and Zoe Boehm
