Publisher Description
With news of Horus’s treachery spreading across the galaxy, the Great Crusade grinds to a halt as the primarchs and their Legions decide where their loyalty lies – with the Emperor, or with the rebel Warmaster. The Dark Angels, too, face a time of testing, both among the stars and on their home world Caliban. Luther, once Lion El’Jonson’s trusted second-in-command, now languishes as an exile in all but name while his master struggles to thwart the traitors’ advance upon the forge world Diamat. But an ancient evil gathers its strength beneath the surface of Caliban, and the First Legion will soon be thrust into a deadly conflict where all that they know will be cast into doubt.

Neither the best nor worst
This is a pretty average episode for the Heresy series. It doesn't really continue the themes from the earlier Dark Angels novel so much as tie them off neatly.
I did find the author was a bit too obsessed with modern military dialogue. Unlike the other books where everyone is shocked and horrified at the Heresy, this is mostly just lots of current day military jargon, no one seems particularly bothered, they just like saying epsilon gamma point four stat! Understood men? Let's use the re supply corridor via omega four delta. The author clearly isn't great with dialogue and doesn't really want to go for the epic darkness of the series - it's more a gung ho military story - more Tom Clancy in space. So it rattles along fine but seems pretty hollow compared to the better entries.
