Publisher Description
It’s not only secrets that are buried by the water… A gripping crime thriller from bestseller master Nick Louth
On the tree-lined banks of Surrey’s River Wey, a decaying corpse is dug up by workmen in the middle of an Anglo-Saxon burial site. His modern dental fillings show that this is no Dark Age corpse...
DCI Craig Gillard is called in, but the body’s condition makes identification difficult. One man, however, seems to fit the bill: Ozzy Blanchard, a contractor employed by the same water firm doing the digging who disappeared six months ago, his crashed company car found nearby.
But then an X-ray of the corpse throws the investigation into turmoil. A shard of metal lodged in his neck turns out to be part of an Anglo-Saxon dagger unknown to archaeologists. Who wielded this mystery weapon and why? Does the answer lie in a murderous feud between two local families?
The deeper Gillard digs, the more shocking truths he will uncover.
A totally original crime mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end, The Body Amongst the Willows is an absolute thrill-ride, perfect for fans of Michael Connelly, Ann Cleeves and Mark Billingham.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The discovery of a decomposing corpse exposes more than just murder in this engrossing mystery from Nick Louth’s long-running DCI Craig Gillard series. Tasked with determining the identity of a body uncovered by sewer workers, Craig embarks on an investigation that leads him down a convoluted trail of extortion, abduction, contract killings, multinational corporations, and decades-old family feuds. Louth starts the action early in this gripping tale and never lets up, as Craig and his team are forced to dig deep into the small town of Rissington Common, unravelling the conflicting clues and tangled stories they get out of the eccentric inhabitants. Newcomers to the world of the dogged and dependable DCI Gillard won’t have any trouble starting with this twisted crime novel set against the quirkiness of a quaint country village. The Body Beneath the Willows may be the quintessential British murder mystery.
Customer Reviews
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Good story, lots of layers.
I’ve read most of this series so far and what I like best about it is that the author has avoided the now very boring trope of making the lead detective a miserable alcoholic with a bitter divorce behind him etc. Gillard is actually likeable and the books are so much better for it.
A book worth reading !
A chance find in the Apple Store . I read the preview and was enticed to buy the e-book . Great characterisation and a plausible story line . Set in the charming English countryside . I highly recommend this book . It was just that bit different and kept me guessing . Cannot wait to read more of this author’s work . Enjoy !
An ok read..
Ok. Didn’t grip me as much as his other novels have done
