A hero will be forged from this broken land.
As seen on Netflix and BBC around the world.
In the battle for power, there can be only one ruler.
The ruler of Mercia is dying, leaving no apparent heir. His wife is a born leader, but no woman has ever ruled over an English kingdom. And she is without her greatest warrior and champion, Uhtred of Bebbanburg.
An empty throne leaves the kingdom exposed to rival West Saxons and to the Vikings, who are on a bloody rampage once more.
A hero is needed, a hero who has been in battle all his life, who can destroy the double threat to Mercia. A hero who will ultimately decide the fate of a nation…

Price
How on earth is the price of this book 14.99!!
At last reduced to a more sensible price.
Feeling slightly cheated!!!
I actually really enjoyed this book right up until I didn't. The reason being is it feels like half a book, like a full version was submitted and the an editor has gone, oh there is enough material here for two books, or more likely the author was under so much pressure from a deadline that they have just gone 'lets just publish what you've got'. Real shame as historically I have enjoyed all his books but seem to be noticing this becoming more and more of a trend.
Genius battle book
I love a great war story, Igguldon and Scarrow among the very best have learned from this man, great battles brought to life by the master story teller, this book is an absolute classic within the series, I could not stop reading it and have the puffy eyes to prove it due to lack of sleep.
From start to end it unfolds from land to sea and from one fight to another, always leaving the reader craving more blood and gore, the ending for me was the best so far in the series, I simply cannot wait for the next one, thank you Bernard, you place me right in the front rank and centre of a shield wall, long live Uhtred and sons.
