Phoenix reckoning
Time for book Seven, with a short interlude first to get my breath back.
As for book Six, the arranging of the series to end in this finale should even more breathtaking. I’m sure I shan’t be let down.
Outstanding story
Could not put the book down. Great characters, great action, great mysteries!! Well done.
Good plot, unrealistic science
Enjoyable tale, with good plot and good variety of characters to follow.
However, some aspects are gratingly unrealistic : in a future of galactic empire why are soldiers still armed with the guns of today? What has medical science barely advanced? Why are space navy officers constantly distracted by female officers being beautiful, even in the midst of battle? Does a would be leader really think people will accept him because they would prefer a king to a queen? Surely in this future humanity would have got over that bias at last?
There's quite a lot of description of politics (which are a cross between the U.K. House of Commons and a Star Wars vision) which could have been shortened and generally the plot could have more succinct - I'll read the last book as i want to know the ending, but the journey is feeling a little tedious now.
Overall for the series - 3 stars.
