The Silent Woman

The story is well written with interesting and believable characters. I hope there will be a follow up book as I would like to see how the relationship develops between Thomas and Catherine.

enjoying a good read ,

A little too modern

I finished the book and I really tried to enjoy it whilst feeling constantly irritated and dissatisfied by how unrealistic it sounded. I hate to be critical and I apologise for it, I just had to say something about what irks me about the book. It is supposed to be a historical novel but the dialog, the language the interactions between characters are so modern and American that it was hard to ignore it. Lots of details were a bit silly, for example the fact that a 14 year old ‘child’ was hired as a maid. In those times it was perfectly acceptable and common for a person that age or younger to work, not just in service. People used to be a lot more formal and there would always be a clear cut distinction between classes. I could go on unpicking it and being harsh and fussy. To put it short, contemporary characters in a pre war setting- it doesn’t work. Even a promise of romance can’t induce me to read the follow up I’m afraid...

Get your facts straight! ,

Absolute Drivel

Thin ill-conceived characters, poorly researched and full of errors. Amazing how someone can get into a taxi and at the end of the journey get out of a police car...and when has a Brit ever offered cream to put in tea!
