Two bodies in one coffin is just a normal day for necromancer and forensic pathologist, Stacey Barnes.
Doctor Stacey Barnes has always had strict rules about her dating life, mostly in order to avoid thinking about the head of forensics in a way she shouldn't.
Gabriel Rook has known Stacey since they were kids and he used to hang out with her brother, but now he sees her differently, and not just as a talented pathologist.
When the latest body comes into the morgue, the two of them have to work together in order to discover the killer, all while trying to avoid the tension growing between them...

Loads of attention for the process and loads of romance
What I really loved about this book is that we get to see another part of the forensic process while we're still getting the thrill of the mystery. Of course, we're missing out on the interrogations (mostly) and the eventual admission of guilt, but it's so cool to see how much information the doctors can get from a body! I loved that the authors took the time to really describe the process.
I also really loved how passionate these characters were about their job. As an outsider their job sounds quite morbid and they have the morbid sense of humor and way of looking at their job to go with it, but seeing people being enthusiast about what they're doing, having bucket lists for their job and enjoying talking about it is in a way contagious.
And then there's the romance. It's clear that those people have known each other for a very long time already. And everyone understands that the longer you've been friends the harder it is to admit that you would want more than friendship. The authors do a great job describing the emotions of the characters and showing us how they eventually do talk about it. And kiss about it.
And now I can't wait to read Spells and Bells!
