The story was compelling and I often found it difficult to put away. There were clues in the narrative which gave hints as to the responsibility for the crimes but they were diffuse and just vague enough to make elusive the solution to the mystery.
The narrator, I felt, did very well in her presentation, keeping the various voice identities consistent and providing enough character and inflection to carry the story and keep it interesting.
I gave a 4 rather than 5 first because it is a good book but in my mind not a great book.
The behavior of some characters at various points throughout the book I found unbelievable in the literal sense: At times some characters reacted, spoke, thought or behaved in ways that seemed unrealistic or, often, hyperbolic and too far out of character. This was not a copious defect but I felt quite detrimental to the plot in my opinion. The most notorious and impacting of these occasional instances was Hanna’s reaction toward Emmy with respect to their falling out. I felt Hanna’s behavior, expectations and assumptions were quite unrealistic and out of character with their relationship, even if they had not been as close as they were. I had a hard time believing someone would react to their dear friend so presumptuously and cruelly. Even in such a state of fear and panic and sorrow it was too far fetched to me that someone would react in such a way and jump to such erroneous conclusions-especially to allow it to fester and drag on for so long and to not reconcile. It seemed more reasonable that after some time H would realize how far afield her behavior toward Emmy was.
There are other examples but that was the most significant to the story in my mind.
Still a good book and recommended.

Good narration. I never know where Karin is going to lead me. TY
